Dr Ng Chee Yung is a general surgeon practising at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Parkway East Hospital, Singapore.
Dr Ng specialises in colorectal surgery, with a passion in advancing the practice of minimally invasive colorectal procedures.
In addition to laparoscopic colorectal resections, Dr Ng’s forte includes many advanced procedures like single port laparoscopy, extended lymph node dissection for advanced colorectal cancer cancer, robotic colorectal resection, colonic stenting, transanal endoscopic microsurgery and transanal total mesorectal excision.
Dr Ng’s other clinical interest is in laparoscopic hernia repair, having also achieved international renown with regular invitations to lecture. He has also performed numerous live demonstrations of his hernia repair technique locally and internationally at workshops and conferences.
Dr Ng has achieved particular renown for his expertise in robotic colorectal surgery and is well sought after as a trainer and educator in robotic surgery. He regularly lectures locally and internationally as well as performs hands-on proctoring for other surgeons in the technique. In 2015, Dr Ng performed a live demonstration of his robotic colorectal surgery technique at an international surgical conference, the ISLCRS (International Society of Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgeons) 2015 Congress.
Dr Ng has also performed pioneering work with colonic stenting for large bowel obstruction and has large personal case experiences in Singapore.
Dr Ng served in Singapore General Hospital (SGH) as Senior Consultant Surgeon and was the Director of the Centre for Digestive and Liver Diseases, a large multidisciplinary coordinated clinical centre within SGH encompassing gastroenterology, upper gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and colorectal surgery.
He also held the position of vice chairperson of the Robotic Minimally Invasive Surgery Committee, a steering group dedicated to the development and advancement of robotic surgery.
Dr Ng has always believed that teaching in medicine is both a duty and an honour. In recognition of his academic efforts, he was awarded an adjunct professorial title in 2011. He continues to teach students and surgical trainees with passion.
